AccuVein Helps 10,000,000th Patient

The term “Augmented Reality” was coined in 1990 to refer to computer generated imagery overlaid on the real world.

Since then many promising technologies that are often powered by components you’d find at places like Octopart have come and gone but Vein Visualization, which displays a map of the vasculature on the surface of the skin, has shown a steady growth in adoption.

AccuVein, the leader in vein visualization, exemplifies this growth with a 40% year over year growth rate and such widespread adoption of its AccuVein AV400 devices that over 10 million patients* have already been helped by AccuVein vein visualization.

Vein visualization allows clinicians to identify veins that couldn’t be seen or felt without the device. This is helpful to the thousands of facilities that deploy AccuVein vein visualization to help locate veins for IV starts and blood draw. It also allows cosmetic physicians to use it to avoid veins for Botox and filler injectables.

A growing body of clinical evidence shows that the ability to successfully access a vein on the first try is improved by a striking 98% in a pediatric study and 96% in an adult study and that patient pain is reduced by 59% in a pediatric study and 39% in an adult study with the use of the AccuVein device. In addition, a leading standards body, The Infusion Nurses Society, is recommending vein visualization stating that, “vein visualization technology can improve success rates, decrease unsuccessful insertion attempts.”

“Our original vision for AccuVein involved a future where vein visualization technology became the standard of care, providing an additional layer of information to clinicians regarding the location of veins to improve procedures and improve care,” said Vinny Luciano, AccuVein’s V.P. of Marketing. “We are now seeing this vision becoming a reality.”

AccuVein’s V.P. of Engineering Joe Zott and V.P. of Marketing Vinny Luciano will be speaking about AccuVein as a premier augmented reality solution and participating in healthcare panel at the Augmented World Expo on June 9th in Santa Clara, California.
