AccuVein AV400 Used for Student Instruction in Variety of Schools

Long Island, NY October 16, 2014 – AccuVein Inc., the global leader in vein visualization today announced that a wide range of schools are incorporating vein visualization devices into student instruction. The AccuVein is the world’s only hand-held, non-contact vein visualization device. It highlights the patient’s vasculature on the skin’s surface in order to improve access to veins for IV starts and blood draws.

Saint Anselm College, a 125-year-old liberal arts college in New Hampshire, is using AccuVein devices for instruction in their labs. “AccuVein has been an invaluable teaching tool. It gives students confidence and enhances their knowledge of vasculature and of venipuncture procedures,” explains Stacy Toupin, Clinical Laboratory Manager. “Students also appreciate that they are learning using the latest technology.”

The American University of Integrative Sciences, St. Maarten School of Medicine recently acquired AccuVein devices as part of their training regimen. Dr. Kalkidan Bekeli, professor of Clinical Medicine at AUIS said, “The impact of students training with the AccuVein is that they are becoming more proficient, more quickly at locating and assessing the vasculature.” The AccuVein technology is also being used at the Sint Maarten Medical Center where, Milo Pinckney, CEO of AUIS’s administration, says, “It is substantially enhancing the provision of care and improving upon the comfort of patients treated at the facility.”

Because venipuncture is the most common invasive medical procedure with an estimated 2.7 million procedures conducted every day in the United States alone, it is critical for students who are healthcare science majors to become proficient at venous access. The AccuVein device can help reduce the need for multiple needle sticks, with the ultimate goal of improving patient care and the time to access veins. A recent study showed a striking 45% reduction in escalation calls following the implementation of the AccuVein, with 81% of the nurses reporting an improved ability to cannulate veins.
